Managed device backup and restore requirements

Model requirements

  • Firewall Threat Defense standalone devices, native instances, container instances, HA pairs, and clusters.

  • Firewall Threat Defense Virtual on VMware only. The devices can be standalone, HA pairs, and clusters.

    Note

    For Firewall Threat Defense Virtual on other virtual platforms, backup and restore are managed at the respective platform. For example, for Firewall Threat Defenses deployed on AWS, device backup and restore are managed by AWS management console.

To replace a device where backup and restore is not supported in Cloud-Delivered Firewall Management Center, you must manually recreate device-specific configurations in Cloud-Delivered Firewall Management Center.

Model requirements for device replacement

For a sucessful restoration, the old and new managed devices must have the same:

  • model number,

  • number of network modules,

  • number of physical interfaces, and

  • same type of physical interfaces.

Version Requirements

As the first step in any device backup, note the patch level. To restore a backup, the old and the new appliance must be running the same Firewall version, including patches.

License Requirements

No special licenses are required to execute backup and restore of the managed devices.
