Dynamic routing and clustering
Dynamic routing and clustering are network configuration approaches that
-
enable each node to run the routing protocol as a standalone router in Individual interface mode,
-
allow routes to be learned by each node independently, and
-
require separate router IDs for each node when communicating with external routers.
Routing behavior and load balancing
In Individual interface mode, ECMP is used to load balance traffic between multiple equal-cost paths. External routers can discover multiple paths to destinations through different cluster nodes.
Router A learns that there are 4 equal-cost paths to Router B, each through a node. ECMP is used to load balance traffic between the 4 paths. Each node picks a different router ID when communicating with external routers.
You must configure a cluster pool for the router ID so that each node has a separate router ID.
