Licenses for device registration using device templates

This reference provides license requirements and conditions for device registration using device templates, including Smart Licensing account requirements and Secure Client license behavior during template application.

  • Device templates do not have any specific license requirements.

  • License entitlements for the target device must be present in the Smart Licensing account.

  • To configure VPN connections in the template, the Essentials license must allow export-controlled functionality. Choose Administration > Licenses > Smart Licenses to verify this functionality in the Cloud-Delivered Firewall Management Center.

  • When you apply a template on a device, note these conditions for Secure Client licensing:
